On April 12th, hundreds of European students gathered at the Palais Brongniart in Paris to compete in the 2018 edition of the Morpheus Cup. Through the day, young talents were notably able to showcase their creativity, tech and marketing skills. The overall winner of the Cup is Team UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). Pitch sessions were also organized during the day and saw EmPower (from Oxford University) take the prize home.

MorpheusCup founder and master of ceremony Fabien Amoretti started by explaining that the competition was created 4 years ago in Luxembourg with the mission of bridging the talent gap between students and companies. Today, numerous schools from 20 countries are participating to this first Parisian edition. "The Cup aims at bridging the gap between talents and companies and it is supported by the European Commission, the Paris City Hall and the Ministry of Superior Education" he added.

He then launched the first challenges of the day. The young students first had to answer to 60-MCQ challenge on their culture and general business knowledge, dealing notably with sustainable development, space, art and entertainment. Through the day, they also had the opportunity to collect additional points by sharing their experience on Instagram by using #MorpheusCup2018, with the teams getting the most "likes" securing the win. A total of 16 challenges on the topics of business, creativity, tech and marketing were then organized.


The Business Challenges

Students first had to think about replacing a company department of a company with AI, a challenge won by Team IESEG, from IESEG Paris.

Crème de la crème asked the talents about the ideal working conditions in 5 years. Team UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) won the challenge.

R7, from 42 Paris, won the third business challenged: students had to create a tech summit similar to ICT Spring.

Finally, the Belgineers team (from University of Namur/HEC) won the HR challenge: they had to think about the next position which might be created in companies in the years to come.


The Creative challenges

Team Howest 2, from Howest University College, won a challenge dealing with geopolitics: they had to image the future flag of the European Commission.

What would be the item which will be useful and even necessary in the years to come? A challenge won by Les Avengeuses, from ENSEA Cergy.

MACIF asked to European talents to think about how customer service could be improved in the insurance industry. The team representing the EU Business School was declared winner.

The final creative challenge dealt with Nation Branding and the creation of a poster to attract startups in your country. Team Mex (EU Business School Geneva) won the challenge.


The Tech challenges

"How can you make live streaming more efficient?" was the question asked by Docler Holding. LeiGEM, with members from Technical University Munich & Ludwigs-Maximilians Universität, Leiden Univesity and Technical University of Denmark, was named winner of the challenge.

In a changing banking environment, how can we add value to the existing data set? Ask the winning team Magic Lemp 2, from University of Paris-Sud. A challenge offered by BNP Paribas

Bâloise challenged the students on the creation of a future mobile app for the insurance industry. CYM from ESTP Cachan won the challenge.

Also dealing with insurance, and more specifically with user experience for autonomous vehicle, the PwC-powered tech challenge was won by BYPteam, from ESTP Paris.


The Marketing challenges

MACIF thought of a challenge dealing with auto quotation and how to make it smoother, which was won by Underdog de Tolbiac (Centre PMF Tolbiac Paris).

What about creating a new recruitment fair? R7 was named winner of the challenge designed by Seektube.

Docler Holding asked students what they would do in order to turn jasmin.com into a global brand. ECITV convinced them and won the challenge.

Finally, Leroy Merlin wanted to know how the challengers would give its customers a new experience through a DIY activity. BSL Squad, from Business School Lausanne, won the last challenge of the day.


And the overall winners of the Morpheus Cup is…

After compiling all the points (MCQ test, challenges and Instagram contest), the winners of the Morpheus Cup were finally announced. ECITV took the third place winning 2,000€, Team IESEG arrived second with 3,000€, and Team UAB (5000€) from Barcelona was named the overall winners of the Morpheus Cup, taking 5,000€ to Barcelona! Congrats to all the participants and the bright European talents.
